NEW DATA PREPARATION MODULE

This new capability enables a certain degree of data manipulation in the self-service process, without asking for a traditional ETL process. The end-user can upload data or use an available data set, and then can easily customize the data structure and contents (group, split and merge data, apply filters, update contents, enrich or classify data, transform a continuous value into a discrete one or mask private data) without using external tools.

NEW ADMINISTRATOR AND END USER LOOK&FEEL

The graphical interface of both the administrator and the end user has been redesigned with a new technology (based on JS VUE framework), focusing on usability.

THEME MANAGEMENT FEATURE

This new feature allows the admin to create new themes to customize KNOWAGE overall look&feel.

Highlights from OW2 15 anniversary

The celebrations for the OW2 15 anniversary took place in Paris on June 29 and 30 concurrently with the Cloud data center + Infra Symposium.

OW2 community showcased some of its project, among them KNOWAGE, and initiatives at booth D41 in Hall 5.1.

In both days, in the salle Renoir, OW2 run the conference Open Cloud.

In June 29, Stefano Scamuzzo and Daniele Gagliardi from Engineering Ingegneria Informatica S.p.A. told on stage the history of Engineering’s participation in the OW2 Community highlighting the motivation for Engineering as a large and recognized systems integrator to embrace the open source culture, the value provided to the OW2 codebase by the KNOWAGE open source BI and analytics project, the outcomes of the initiatives where Engineering has actively participated, the relationships with the European Research projects.

The speech was followed by a round table on the topic “Information Systems: How to manage interactions with the open source ecosystem?” and the OW2con’22 Best Project Awards ceremony.

In the same day, OW2 community gathered for the social event with cocktail dinatoire et networking.

On June 30, the Open Cloud by OW2 continued with the presentations of OW2 Open Source solutions for the Cloud  and the round table on “Risks and opportunities for European open source publishers facing cloud giants“.

This OW2 15 anniversary has been a great opportunity to meet again in person with one of the most renowned European open source communities and to set new goals and vision for the next years.

OW2 15 anniversary

This year the OW2 Consortium reaches the exciting milestone of 15 years of activity.

The celebrations OW2 15 anniversary will take place concurrently with the Cloud data center + Infra Symposium.

The event will take place in Paris on June 29 and 30 with more than 120 Experts and 3,500 visitors. Professionals in infrastructure, design and operation of distributed services will discuss challenges and current projects in the industry ecosystems. The Symposium will present solutions on the most “cutting edge” and innovative topics in the sector, with strong content and numerous round tables and conferences specialized by course.

Ow2 team will exhibit together with Xwiki project and KNOWAGE in booth D14, Hall 5.1.

Furthermore, OW2 will run the conference Open Cloud on June 29 from 16:30 to 18h and on June 30 from 9h00 to 12h00.

It includes: 

  • 2 OW2 Testimony talks, one of them by KNOWAGE Labs and Engineering Group.

This talk will tell the history of Engineering’s participation in the OW2 Community highlighting the motivation for Engineering as a large and recognized systems integrator to embrace the open source culture, the value provided to the OW2 codebase by the KNOWAGE open source BI and analytics project, the outcomes of the initiatives where Engineering has actively participated, the relationships with the European Research projects. Moreover, our speakers will present the best practices of open source have been disseminated during these 15 years through the company in such a way to enrich the development process by fostering collaboration and openness, which are among the pillars of modern architectures and digital innovation programs

KNOWAGE wins the OW2 Technology Award!

OW2 market award

KNOWAGE won the TECHNOLOGY AWARD and has been recognized as OW2con’20 Best Project. The award recognizes the technology excellence of the project, with specific attention to quality (tests coverage, code analysis tools, security vulnerabilities, etc), project health (number and evolution of releases, downloads, issues, etc), existence of a community (number of contributors, forums, and evolution) and user-friendliness (level of documentation provided, etc).

The 2020 OW2 Best Project Technology Award goes to KNOWAGE, the business analytics platform, that has successfully maintained a strong momentum of constant innovation well reflected in the 7th release with new features and the ability to combine data from many different sources and scripts from different languages in an open source software that complies to open standards and can be easily embedded in third-party products and OEM solutions.

OW2 is the international community dedicated to develop and to promote an open source code base. Each year, OW2 rewards three “best of breed” projects for their global contribution to the influence of the community ecosystem. This year, the other two award, the Community and the Market went respectively to Lutece and Melodic.

COVID-19 data visualization and analysis with KNOWAGE

Knowage Labs publicly released three free interactive cockpits to explore COVID-19 data

The 2020 started with a great challenge for Italy and the whole world. The global COVID-19 pandemic heavily challenges our countries in all their sectors, from health to socio-politics and economy.

The open source community is playing a strong role in this emergency contributing both with hardware and softwares to fight COVID-19. As active members of the open source community, Knowage Labs feel the moral obligation to use their expertise on data visualization and data analysis to make open data about COVID-19 as meaningful as possible for everyone.

Therefore, Knowage Labs developed three different cockpits over COVID-29  open data and made them available for everyone on Knowage online demo. These cockpits exploit the wide Knowage capabilities in data visualization, advanced analytics and predictive analyses: Knowage, in fact, is the open source business analytics suite that combines traditional business intelligence capabilities with agile tools that promote the autonomy of end users and advanced features aimed at the emerging segment of data scientists.

The realization of these cockpits has been supported by Engineering Ingegneria Informatica through the contribution of its Excellence Competence Center in Data & Analytics.

Knowage 6.4 release

KNOWAGE suite is now available on its 6.4 version. From the previous version the following changes have been made:

  • News Managements, a new option to create news for the end user;
  • The user is now able to change the document name, within workspace;
  • Registry, the profile attributes filtering criteria are applied on Registry document;
  • When integrating Knowage with Javascript SDK, user can be authenticated by means of a JWT token;
  • Chart, it is possible to combine a stacked bar chart with a line chart;
  • Chart, when the user sets order column in bar chart in wrong way, Knowage alerts the user;
  • Chart, the user can specify if legend should also contain checkboxes to hide/display values on the chart;
  • CrossTab, the user is able to configure the total label in a cross-tab; • Mobile, Knowage advises on wrong device orientation;
  • HTML widget, it is possible to set up a min and max limit for the kn-calc in the HTML Widget;
  • HTML widget, it does not load all data when only aggregations are required;
  • OLAP, while choosing members of a dimension to be displayed in an OLAP analysis, the user can unselect all values with a single click;
  • OLAP, the default behaviour in the “search items” in a hierarchy is “Hide siblings”;
