Free Software Conference in Bozen

On 15th and 16th of November, Bozen (South Tyrol – Italy) hosts the 19th edition of the Free Software Conference. The Free Software Conference is one of Europe’s most established annual conferences on Free Software. It promotes the use of Free Software in IT infrastructures as a tool to achieve greater innovation and competitiveness in the region. Here decision-makers and developers meet, learn and get inspired.

On the 15th of November, from 16:40 to 18:20, OW2 has been invited to organize an OW2 conference track, involving FASTEN project and Knowage. More in detail, Grazia Cazzin, Knowage Director will held the speech “KNOWAGE: the open source answer to the new needs in data analysis and exploration“, where she will present Knowage 7.0 great and challenging features that really expand analytics capabilities. Just to mention few of them: data exploration through Solr/ElasticSearch index, native geographical exploration within cockpits and new wizards to faster explore your data.

FIWARE COMMUNITY GATHERED IN BERLIN

From 20th to 24th October the CityCube in Berlin hosted the Smart Country Convention. The event focused on digital solutions for administrations and public services: in municipalities, cities, regions and the federal government. FIWARE community joined the event with its own Village where several companies belonging to FIWARE communities such as Knowage were showcased.

On 23rd and 24th of October, the Smart Country Convention was joined by the FIWARE GLOBAL SUMMIT. FIWARE, the industrial-driven open service platform promoted by the European Commission, Engineering and other international ICT players, launched the new edition of its Summit in Berlin to discuss and further the knowledge of the adoption of de-facto standards of open source, reusable components that implement common APIs and interfaces for portability and interoperability of applications.

Moreover, on 24th of October, Marco Cortella, Knowage solution designer, held the speech “Knowage hands on: visualizing data insights” presenting Knowage 7.0, officially released the previous day.

Engineering Group joined these events through different of its companies, presenting in particular the following projects: Waste4Think, MIDIH, Knowage, CaPe, Synchronicity and Digital Enabler. Here more details about Engineering participation.

Knowage 7.0 is now available!

Knowage CE 7.0 is now available for download. From the previous version 6.4 the following changes have been made:

  • New QBE Engine GUI
  • New document detail form
  • New Registry engine
  • Tagging Data SET
  • Improvements on SolR Data Set
  • Default role, the ADMIN can configure a default role for each user
  • New Cockpit functions

                – New Discovery widget, now it is possible to use SolR data set inside the cockpit

                          – New Map widget

                – New gauge charts

                – Cross navigation creation from a crosstab, map and text widget

                – Dataset download clicking on a link in BIRT report

                – New export cockpit as CSV file

                – Summary row enablement for a specific column inside the table widget

                         – New Table widget

                – Addition of properties that are not provided by chart designer in the chart widget

                – Paddings setting in cockpit widgets

                – Upgrade of Highcharts library from 6.1.1 to 7.1.1

                – New option in chart design to specify if legend should contain also checkboxes to hide/display values

                – The stacked bar chart can now be combined with a line chart

                –  Dataset preview from a HTML/chart/table widget and Birt Report for the user

                – New option for specifying the cardinality of relationship as 1..N to 1 when defining a business model

EBDVF19 Event Highlights

From 14th to 16th of October 2019, Helsinki hosted the European Big Data Value forum that gathered together more than 600 participants among industry professionals, business developers, researchers, and policymakers coming from all over the world.

Helsinki is the European Commission’s new European Capital of Smart Tourism 2019 in reasons of its accessibility, sustainability, digitization cultural heritage and creativity. Besides, Helsinki aims to redefine what it means to be a truly sustainable city. Its functionality is based on the Nordic model of high-quality city services and open governance.

Knowage booth has been the crossroad where many professionals met each others, shared projects and discussed about proper data visualization and data analysis. Different Knowage 7.0 demoes were held and the new look&feel and the advanced analysis capabilities of Knowage 7.0 really impressed visitors.

Some European projects and associations supported by Knowage and Engineering Group also participated in the event: Ew-Shopp, Muketeer, Nessi and BDVA of course.

At the end of the third day, Grazia Cazzin, Knowage director, held the speech “Open source experiences in AI and DataViz for manufacturing”. This speech was indicated by many participants as one of the most interesting due to the presentation of real use cases and the level of technical details provided.
