OW2 conference 2023

This year’s edition of the OW2 conference, held in Paris on June 14-15, 2023, focused on the main theme “Open Source Software and Digital Commons“.

KNOWAGE ,contributed to the event with one speech:

On Wednesday 14, “KNOWAGE and AICS for 2030 agenda SDG goals monitoring“ held by Filippo CasettaModroni, KNOWAGE Consultant. He presented a platform that is probably unique in the world and will allow both the Agency and the public to access all the major indicators on the UN Sustainable Development Goals provided by international sources (World Bank, WTO, ILO..) and easily compare them. The solution will allow analysis to start from 3 different touch points: the infographic of SDG goals, the advanced search criteria, and the virtual assistant. Then, a customized dashboard will be provided to the user, allowing to further expand the analysis by interacting with charts, maps, tables, etc.
The talk has shown the state of art of the solution, highlighting objectives and expected results of the project, but also the new developments of KNOWAGE related to AI.

Data & Analytics Academy

From November 21st 2022 to January 16th, 2023 the “Enrico Della Valle” IT & Management Academy delivers the new edition of the Data & Analytics Academy.

The Academy participants, 10 young italian STEM graduates, experience a three-step path of entry into Engineering Group.

The first week, carried out in residential mode at the Academy headquarters, allows participants to get fully involved into Engineering company. Through a broad serie of activities (team bulding games, agile mindset training, lectures…), guided by renowned partners such as HXO and Talent Garden, they gain full awareness on their role in a team and within a Digital Transformation Company leader in Italy such as Engineering.

The second part of the program is focused on technical skills consolidation: sql, data modeling, dwh, etl e data visualization.

In the last part of the Academy, participants will receive specific education on the most important subject of the company area in which they will be inserted. Many of them will then be educated on KNOWAGE by our Senior Consultant and Dataviz specialist, Marco Cortella and will officially join KNOWAGE Labs.

SFScon22 highlights

This year, the South Tyrol Free Software Conference (SFScon22) took place on Friday, 11th November and Saturday, 12th November 2022 in blended mode.

KNOWAGE exhibited together with OW2 Consortium with a joint stand and delivered three talks, aiming to present to the European open source community the recent novelties from KNOWAGE ecosystem.

– In the COMMUNITY TRACK, Elena Marchisa (KNOWAGE Marketing & Communications Manager) will hold together with Roberto Palazzetti, CEO of OSMOSIT (KNOWAGE Integrator partner) the talk “Business partnership in open source: the experience of Osmosit and KNOWAGE“.

Free Software Conference 2022

The South Tyrol Free Software Conference (SFScon) is one of Europe’s most established annual conferences on Free Software. SFScon promotes the use of Free Software in digital infrastructures as a tool to achieve greater innovation and competitiveness in the region. The festival gathers together decision-makers and developers from all Europe.

This year, SFScon 2022 will take place on Friday, 11th November and Saturday, 12th November 2022 in blended mode.

The collaboration has over time taken various forms: data analysis training in universities, support to other companies in the adoption of open source, collaboration for the evolution of KNOWAGE suite and for the development of new products as KeyRef, the cloud solution for the management of school canteens and related services, that will be showcased during the talk. The talk aims to share a successful partnership model and foster a better collaboration between companies involved in open source..

In COMMUNITY TRACK, Grazia Cazzin (KNOWAGE Director) will hold the talk “Open source analytics and business intelligence – use cases in enterprises and public sector“.

This talk presents some use cases from both public sector and private companies where KNOWAGE, the open source analytics and business intelligence suite made in Italy, enabled a deeper understanding of ongoing phenomena and allowed reaching data-driven decisions. For each project, the speaker will highlight goals and initial requirements, the open source stack exploited, the values brought by the solution and the benefits gained through open source.

This talk aims to present how KNOWAGE provides company and organizations with analytical capabilities to exploit data to increase their efficiency and sustainability. Also thanks to the open source community support, the suite is constantly evolving combining the reliability of the most popular business intelligence solutions with the security and the transparency guaranteed by open source. This talk will give a focus on the main novelties introduced in 2022, such as: new data preparation module and data federation in self-service process, augmented analytics to support every end-user touch point and provide automatic insights, usability and performance for a new effective UI, a core offering as SaaS ABI solution.

KNOWAGE is joining the Free Software Conference together with other OW2 Community projects, with the aim to promote this association and the capabilities of its projects.

Highlight from Big Data & AI Toronto 2022

On October 6-7, 2022 Big Data & AI Toronto gathered together around 5500 IT decision-makers and data innovators, allowing them to explore and discuss insights, showcase the latest innovative projects, and connect with other data and analytics professionals.

On October 6th at 15:30, in the AI Demo stage, Grazia Cazzin (KNOWAGE Director) hold the demo presentation “Successful analytics and business intelligence with full open source stack – solutions and use cases from various industrial markets“. She showcased several real use cases from energy, healthcare and manufacturig sector, where big data, AI, cloud and Iot have been combined in end-to-end solutions.

Thanks also to the participation of colleagues from Engineering USA, KNOWAGE booth has been the a place to discuss recent technologies, fields of use and future scenarios, confronting with a multidisciplinary, stimulating and creative team.

The contacts collected and the ideas generated during the event will allow various Canadian companies to enhance their business thanks to open source business intelligence solutions.

NEW DATA PREPARATION MODULE

This new capability enables a certain degree of data manipulation in the self-service process, without asking for a traditional ETL process. The end-user can upload data or use an available data set, and then can easily customize the data structure and contents (group, split and merge data, apply filters, update contents, enrich or classify data, transform a continuous value into a discrete one or mask private data) without using external tools.

NEW ADMINISTRATOR AND END USER LOOK&FEEL

The graphical interface of both the administrator and the end user has been redesigned with a new technology (based on JS VUE framework), focusing on usability.

THEME MANAGEMENT FEATURE

This new feature allows the admin to create new themes to customize KNOWAGE overall look&feel.

Highlights from OW2 15 anniversary

The celebrations for the OW2 15 anniversary took place in Paris on June 29 and 30 concurrently with the Cloud data center + Infra Symposium.

OW2 community showcased some of its project, among them KNOWAGE, and initiatives at booth D41 in Hall 5.1.

In both days, in the salle Renoir, OW2 run the conference Open Cloud.

In June 29, Stefano Scamuzzo and Daniele Gagliardi from Engineering Ingegneria Informatica S.p.A. told on stage the history of Engineering’s participation in the OW2 Community highlighting the motivation for Engineering as a large and recognized systems integrator to embrace the open source culture, the value provided to the OW2 codebase by the KNOWAGE open source BI and analytics project, the outcomes of the initiatives where Engineering has actively participated, the relationships with the European Research projects.

The speech was followed by a round table on the topic “Information Systems: How to manage interactions with the open source ecosystem?” and the OW2con’22 Best Project Awards ceremony.

In the same day, OW2 community gathered for the social event with cocktail dinatoire et networking.

On June 30, the Open Cloud by OW2 continued with the presentations of OW2 Open Source solutions for the Cloud  and the round table on “Risks and opportunities for European open source publishers facing cloud giants“.

This OW2 15 anniversary has been a great opportunity to meet again in person with one of the most renowned European open source communities and to set new goals and vision for the next years.

OW2 15 anniversary

This year the OW2 Consortium reaches the exciting milestone of 15 years of activity.

The celebrations OW2 15 anniversary will take place concurrently with the Cloud data center + Infra Symposium.

The event will take place in Paris on June 29 and 30 with more than 120 Experts and 3,500 visitors. Professionals in infrastructure, design and operation of distributed services will discuss challenges and current projects in the industry ecosystems. The Symposium will present solutions on the most “cutting edge” and innovative topics in the sector, with strong content and numerous round tables and conferences specialized by course.

Ow2 team will exhibit together with Xwiki project and KNOWAGE in booth D14, Hall 5.1.

Furthermore, OW2 will run the conference Open Cloud on June 29 from 16:30 to 18h and on June 30 from 9h00 to 12h00.

It includes: 

  • 2 OW2 Testimony talks, one of them by KNOWAGE Labs and Engineering Group.

This talk will tell the history of Engineering’s participation in the OW2 Community highlighting the motivation for Engineering as a large and recognized systems integrator to embrace the open source culture, the value provided to the OW2 codebase by the KNOWAGE open source BI and analytics project, the outcomes of the initiatives where Engineering has actively participated, the relationships with the European Research projects. Highlights from OW2 conference 2022

The last edition of the OW2 conference (June 8-9, 2022), focused on the main theme “Reliable and predictable Open Source“.

The event provided stimulating talks on the future of enterprise #opensource and how to face it, together with updates on the evolution of many OW2-powered projects.

In the opening session, Cedric Thomas and Pierre-Yves Gibello told about the indirect return of open source and the importance of addressing corporate information systems. OW2 Market Readiness methodology and Good governance initiative ensure OW2-powered solutions are solid and ready for market.

KNOWAGE contributed to the event with two speeches, showing the new features realeased in the first half of the year and the novelties that are yet to come. KNOWAGE director presented two real use cases where AI&ML algorithms allowed public entities to have reliable forecast on pandemic trends and manage public services monitoring and respecting social distancing measures.
