IN BRIEF

KeyRef is the cloud solution that OSMOSIT developed to satify the needing of the City of Anzio to manage the chain of collective catering in the school canteens, simplifying the work of all the actors, from the production of the meal, to the payment of the service, also checking the quality of what the children eat.

CUSTOMER

The City of Anzio is an Italian town and seaside resort of 52 409 inhabitants in the metropolitan city of Rome, the capital of Italy. The city of Anzio received in 2004 the Gold Medal for civil valor in recognition of the love of country and the spirit of sacrifice manifested by its inhabitants during the Second World War

THE NEED

Each school is a complex ecosystem in which different services are developed in addition to the educational one: the public transportation, the canteen, booking and registration services. The canteen service chain alone involves several stakeholders: the child who eats the meal, the parent who books the meal and pay for the service, the dietician doctor who establishes the food regime, the municipality that chooses the quality level of the products and the restaurant company that buys raw materials, produces and distributes the meal. These stakeholders need to be properly coordinated to ensure great quality service and full user satisfaction. In a city of 50,000 inhabitants, every day 3,000 children on average have lunch at school and the management of whole process, from the booking to the distribution of the meal, must be done in less than 5 hours. The certainty of the information and the punctuality of the data are a decisive factor for effective service management.
The City of Anzio needed a platform to allow the various actors to carry out their activities in a coordinated way, having visibility over the entire process chain:

  • municipality should check members and tracks payments;
  • doctor/dietician should check the food prescribed;
  • restaurant company should schedule the food preparation and delivery;
  • parents shoul book the meal and check the status of the service;
  • inspectors should check the entire process.

THE SOLUTION

Business Intelligence for entrepreneurship: Knowage Document Browser

KeyRef is developed with full open source stack. It is composed by SugarCRM, joined with Liferay and MySql. The CRM is also connected with IoT agents that provide data on meal production and waste. KeyRef then uses KNOWAGE as data visualization layer.

Data used by the platform come from different sources: smartphone that the parent uses to book the meal; production systems that collect data during the preparation of the meal; the waste collection systems (during the disposal of dishes); payment systems for services. First of all, KeyRef allowed the City of Anzio to equip with a centralized system to collect and manage data.

An example of Business Intelligence for entrepreneurship: interactive view

A unique card for each child, used by the parents to book canteen services and reports the services in a timely and uniform manner, allows the system ensures a complete management of the service flow.

Being able to analyse, aggregate, compare, and correlate data, lead to a deeper  understanding of the eating habits of children and the consequent adaptation of the services, allowed the City of Anzio not only optimizing the process, but also to improve the services offer by activating services on individual demand.

Interactive dashboard for tutor's activity analysis

KNOWAGE allows to gather all data in single interactive views, enabling every stakeholder to access the full set of information. More in detail, KNOWAGE provides three different dashboards:

  • Produced and Distributed meals – gives each user the own point of view on data, with series history.
  • The raw materials used – allows reading of information in real time, aggregating them in different dimensions, for example the raw materials used for production.
  • Health and cultural integration – merges available system data with external sources and information, allowing to control the process and to discover the eating habits of children.

The new business strategy: interactive dashboard

KeyRef is AGID compliant and is fully integrated with European accessibility standards. It allows the authentication via SPID (digital identity), payments via PAGOPA app and notifications through APP-IO app.

The system is available via desktop, tablet and mobile.

In the years, the solution grew, supporting also other services always linked to the school world, such as the transport service (optimising the management of bus lines) and the nursery (managing enrollments and rankings, with adjoining breakfast and canteen services).
